Since middle school, I have had a friend who was not just a friend, or a best friend. She was always more like a sister to me. Over the years we have stayed in touch sometimes being better at it than others, but we have always had a common ground and special bond. She is an amazing music teacher and dear friend, but in her spare time she has taken on a new endeavor... Mary Kay! I was lucky enough to receive a free makeover along with my daughter and then we turned around and had an awesome studio session. Stephanie is a beautiful person inside and out and it certainly shows through in her images. If you need your Mary Kay fix, this is the girl to call!
Today I had the opportunity to do something new. Normally I jump at the chance, but today's task was a little more than a new camera angle. The moments I was asked to capture today were not those of joy, but those of sorrow. Moments of goodbye and last words. Feelings of honor and history flow through these images, but in the end, a father, a husband, and a great sailor was laid to rest among many heroes gone before him. I was honored for the chance to be there for this special client in this difficult time. Never having been to Arlington National Cemetery, I did my research and prepared for the multitude of the landscape and the process of the ceremony. Nothing however could prepare me for the way I felt just being in the presence of these hallowed grounds. I was able to make it through this very emotional service, though it was difficult not to hide a few tears behind my camera to attest to the love, respect, and honor gained by this man in his lifetime. Today was truly an experience I will never forget.
I had the wonderful opportunity again to observe Miss Rachel's class. These little ladies are becoming quite the young dancers. You can already see the technique developing and the sparkle in their eyes when they do their favorite move. Even though it is early on a Saturday morning, these girls gave it their all and had a blast doing it. I love photographing children at this age. They are so aware of everything and usually make for a hilarious subject!
Attie and Gary are just about the closest thing to family that I have outside of my own actual blood relatives, so when they asked me to come out and see their new home and have a holiday session, I was truly honored! Their new home is beautiful, complete with a stunning view of the Catoctin Mountains! We had such a wonderful time capturing these treasured moments!
